As soon as I heard of this article, I went and read it and knew immediately I had to put a post on my blog about it. This just really hit close to home. You can read the full article here.
Earlier today, a 14 year old boy, shot & killed himself in front of classmates at a school about 30 minutes from my house. Why? One of his friends said it was because he was bullied and one of the reasons he was bullied is because people said he was gay. There’s no proof that he’s gay.
Seriously, when are people going to learn to take bullying seriously and that it isn’t funny and it’s not a joke and it hurts?!?! When are people going to realize that it doesn’t matter if you’re gay, straight, blue, purple, green or yellow, there’s NO EXCUSE for bullying. Period!
Through elementary school and junior high, I was made fun of. In elementary school I would end up spending recess walking around the playground with my mom, who was “Ground Duty” because I had no friends because people would make fun of me. In junior high and even in my sophomore year of high school, I remember coming home from school crying because people would make fun of me. Why would they make fun of me? Because I wasn’t the prettiest girl. I didn’t have the brand name clothes, etc.
Thankfully I had a great outlet and parents that talked to me after school and I had parents that were concerned about me and cared asked questions every day when I came home from school.
Thank God for people like Ellen DeGeneres who bring this subject to the front all the time. I think alot of people push bullying to the side and don’t think it’s as big a deal as it is.
For the love of all that is good and holy, PLEASE stop bullying. If you know someone who is being bullied, please let them know you care. Like it says at the end of the news article, if you need help or know someone who needs help, there is always a listening ear 24 hours a day at 800-273-TALK. You can always leave a comment here too. Like I tell all of my friends, I might not know the right words to say, but I have a good listening ear.
