Journal Jar Question # 1

Sometimes I wonder what to post on my blog. Sometimes I wonder if people get tired of reading about my triathlons or running or workouts. Sometimes I wonder if I should post more about my anxiety or if people think I’m complaining etc.

Today I remembered I have what I call a “Journal Jar” that has a bunch of questions in it. Since I treat my blog like a journal, I thought I’d pull a question out and answer it here on my blog. Today’s question is:

What was your favorite place to go with your family when you were young?

The first thing that comes to mind is on a Sunday, we’d always go for a Sunday drive out to the Salt Lake International Airport and watch airplanes take off and land. Before they remodeled the airport, there was an area on the South end of the airport where cars could go and watch airplanes land and take off. Where you parked, when airplanes would take off and land, they flew right over your car. I know this sounds weird, but it was a lot of fun. We’d load up the car with a drink for all of us (soda, Kool Aid, etc) and we’d sometimes take our dog out there.

If the weather was good, we’d take a frisbee out with us and get out and throw the frisbee around. If not, we’d usually just sit in the car and contemplate how many passengers were on board and where they were flying. I remember kneeling in the back seat with my brother and looking out the rear window trying to beat him in seeing who could see the next plane coming in for a landing. It was also a competition to see who could tell what airline that plane was too.

We would stay out there for HOURS and watch the planes. Once it started to get dark, it was a game to see if it was an airplane or if it was a star in the sky. Eventually, it was time to go home. Usually because someone fell asleep, or someone had to go to the bathroom, or me and my brother started fighting. Haha!

I have other favorite places I remember from my childhood, but I think I’ll save those for another post.

Do you have a favorite place you went with your family when you were a kid?
